How To Win X Factor: Keeley Bolger, October 31—November 8, 2015
My rating: ♦♦♦◊◊
It does what it says on the tin. How to Win X Factor combines the author’s observations with talking head interviews from experts and show alumni.
Bolger doesn’t seem sure if she’s trying to present an actual manifesto for success or a tongue-in-cheek swipe at its predictability. She flits between constrictive advice and bizarre nonsense, and the uncertain pitch means you never really know what to expect.
Having said that, a good number of the reflections on what has and hasn’t worked are interesting, if for its commentary on the psychology of the viewing public if nothing else. Bolger also manages to reconcile a plethora of seemingly contradictory faucets very simply.
Certainly, any fan of X Factor, not to mention budding contestant, will find this interesting and surprisingly detailed. Whether it will help you win is another matter altogether.
