Reviews from Lord Taylor of Glencoe
God Save the Queen: Summersdale Publishers, 7 June, 2012.
My rating: ♦♦♦◊◊
This random assortment of facts about Queen Elizabeth II is a great way to mark the Diamond Jubilee. The trivia is sorted by category, and there’s a good mixture of genuinely interesting and mildly amusing facts.
As a genre, ‘fact’ books can be hit and miss but this is quite extensive and manages to both inform and entertain, giving statistics and information about Her Majesty’s 60 year reign, her position and about her personally. It blends lists of her Prime Ministers, Commonwealth Countries and titles with truisms about her TV viewing habits, bridesmaids and favourite tipple. And she send her first email in 1976.
It has the familiar Jubilee-style crown and text design on the cover and of course it’s a novelty book rather than a solid reference guide, but it’s very well done. Cleverly put together, with thought going into the design, arrangement and content in a beautiful little hardback volume.
God save the Queen.
